Scottish Roots and Fruits: The Power of Connection

SNACC 2024 will once again take place on December 6-7 over the weekend of the Alexandria Scottish Christmas Walk at the Sheraton Alexandria.


Friday, 12/6:  2:00pm-5:00pm, concluding with drinks and light bites from 5:30pm to 7:00pm


Saturday, 12/7: 2:30pm-5:30pm, concluding with drinks and light bites from 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Organized by the American-Scottish Foundation, The Council of Scottish Clans and Associations, St Andrew's Society of Detroit, Chicago Scots, Scottish American Women’s Society, Scottish Studies Society, and St. Andrew's Society of Toronto.

2:00pm - Registration

2:30 pm- Opening Remarks Scottish Affairs Greeting and Remarks

2:45 pm - Sir John McEwan

 A discussion of Scottish artist and musician Rory McEwen, Sir John’s uncle. An exhibition of Rory’s incredible botanical art is currently touring the USA from Kew Gardens. 


The journey to Chiefship: A look into the process of becoming the first Chief of Clan McEwen for 500+ years. 


A reading from Scotland – Whit Like Is It?, an acclaimed one-man play Sir John wrote and is planning to bring it to the USA in 2025 when Clan McEwen will be honoured at Chicago’s Highland Games. Sir John has updated the play to include a new emphasis on how Scotland has influenced American thinking.

3:30pm - Heirs Project, panel discussion

Panel discussion between Clan Chiefs and their Heirs-  led by Iain Cochrane, Earl of Dundonald, his son Lord Cochrane, and John Cochran as "Sennachie to the Chief”, moderated by John Bellassai, president of the Council of Scottish Clans and Associations (COSCA).

4:00pm -Scottish Connections : Panel discussion

Eilidh MacKinnon, Deputy Head of Scottish Government USA, together with Ian Houston and Gus Noble, president of the Chicago Scots.

4:30pm - Youth Engagement

Led by Rory Hedderly

5:30pm - Reception

Networking and conversation with light bites and refreshments

Roundtable with St Andrew's Society of Detroit, St Andrew’s Society of LA, Chicago Scots, American-Scottish Foundation, Scottish American Women’s Society, St. Andrew's Society of Washington, DC, and St. Andrew's Society of Toronto.

4:00pm - Youth Involvement

Growing our Young Scot Platform - led by Cameron Steer, ASF Youth Ambassador. 

4:30pm - Highland Games: Challenges and Ways Forward

Moderated by Camilla Hellman, ASF President and Brendan Fyfe of St Andrews Toronto
